8 Tips for Building Backlinks to Your Website

By Dani Wilbert
Backlinks, also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links, are incoming links to a website or web page. In basic link terminology, a backlink is any link received by a web node (web page, directory, website, or top level domain) from another web node (Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backlink )
Your backlinks is the element that determines how many sites links back to you. Your website traffic is related to the amount and the quality of the backlinks that you acquire.
Backlinks are one of the major ways to keep the google rankings. It is important to understand that professional Search Engine Optimization depends on many factors and backlinks is one of the more important ones.
One can get many back links, but it’s important to harvest leading websites to link to your online business. Here are some of the ways of getting these backlinks.
1. Broken-link Building.
This is one of my favorite ways to build backlinks. This technique involves contacting webmaster and reporting broken links on their website. This is a great way because you are also doing webmaster a favor reporting broken links that increases your chances of backlinking to them.
To start looking for broken links you need to find websites in your niche. You can download and install the Google Chrome plugin called Check my Links. This will allow you to discover all 404 error pages. When you locate non-existing pages, you need to reach out to the webmaster and provide them with this information. Politely explain that links to those resources don’t work, providing links to those resource locations, so they can be easily be found. Provide them with links to possible alternatives to replace theirs, including your website. This method does not work 100% percent of the time, but is worth trying.
2. Infographics
Everyone loves visual data! If this is true then infographics are one of the most popular ways to bring traffic and backlink to your website. Check out this publication Mashable where you can find infographics from all over the web. The secret to the right infographic is to create an interesting story for your audience. Follow trending topics, interests and viral themes, cover statistical data and use it to build and infographic. To conclude, you need two variables: gathered statistical data and an ability to make that data visual. Next, once the infographic is ready, you need to make it easy for others to share it. To do this, create your own embed code using Siege Media generator. After you are done embedding data into your website, you will need to submit it into infographics’ directories. For example, here is a list with more than than 100 places to submit your infographic. You can even do an email blast among people who might be interested in your statistical data.
3. Guest Articles
This is pretty simple, you post an article on other popular websites. This is a great way to reach out to new audience. It is important to mention that even Google accepts guest articles on search engine optimization.
It is important to mention that you need to link all your guest articles to your social media account, so if someone likes your articles, they can follow and share your work.
4. Keep an eye on your Competition.
Everyone does it, so you should as well. Staying ahead of online marketing is important if you are serious about getting more organic traffic. The goal is to keep an eye on your competition via social media to see what they do with link-building as well as their content–marketing.
5. Build internal links on your website.
With excellent link structure, you can help users easily navigate throughout the content and increase the experience. There are a lot of tools to automatically create links on your blog. Microsoft's Matt Cutts has recommended that webmasters keep their number of internal links per page below 100, for both usability and SEO.
6. Promote your content.
In order to get backlinks you need to know how to promote your content. One of the best ways is an email blast to promote your articles.
You can begin by contacting bloggers or websites running weekly or monthly roundups. Make sure you choose in order to see results only from the past week or month. With your message, send a link to one of your best tutorials or guides. If they find your resource useful, they may link back to you in their next weekly roundup. These bloggers are constantly looking for great content, so your input is likely to be received well. Avoid asking the webmaster for a link directly; else wise you may be ignored.
7. Write testimonials.
A great way to get backlinks is to leave testimonials on the major website and blogs that you use. As long as you are a customer of that product, there is a possibility that they will backlink to you.
8. Donate.
Another way to earn backlinks is by donating to nonprofit organizations. The trick is to find organizations in your niche that will link back to you when you donate. Finding those websites will require some research in google.
